My Piggy Product Favorites

There are a lot of products out there for pigs.  Its not always easy to decide what is the best to use when you are new to pig ownership.  The following list has the products that I feel work the best.  Keep in mind that this is just my opinion.  You can buy and use what works best for you and your pig.

Food
  • Purina Pig and Sow.  I buy it at Tractor Supply. (I do not suggest this food anymore. I will attach a link to my podcast where I talk about why.)
  • Kalmbach foods are what we use for our pigs.  Kalmbach Family Fixins or Squeals of Joy.  You can find them on Chewy.
  • Bowls – pigs are notorious for flipping their food and water bowls. I find that bowls with a heavy bottom and no ridges at the top work the best. I buy them from Tractor Supply.  Below are some of mine that I like.  I also like to use food dispensing toys like this one.
  • Whimzees are a great chew treat for pigs.  I find the best prices on Amazon.
  • Oinkbox has a great food, dental stix and treats.  They are a fantastic company, and I love supporting them.

BEDDING

  • Bed – I don’t spend a lot of money on pig beds.  Some piglets tend to pee on their beds.  I like to go to places like TJMaxx or Marc’s and find beds cheap.  That way when I have to wash them and they fall apart, its not a big deal.  I wait until a pig has matured a bit before I spend more on it’s bed.  Pigs love beds that they can cuddle up in like the ones below.  I buy these or these on Amazon.
  • Blankets – I don’t spend a lot of money on blankets either.  I like to get blankets at Good Will.
  • Heating pad – I buy my heating pads at Target and Chewy.com.  They are nothing special.

POTTY

BATH
  • Any baby shampoo or soap works just fine.  I use an animal shampoo from Young Living.  I also love Piggy4Ever Ultra Shampoo. You can find it HERE.
  • Towel.  I use a pet towel from Norwex but any towel will work.
  • Treats in the tub – peanut butter, Cheerios and fruit.  I love to use a LickiMat.

OTHER SUPPLIES
  • Harness/Leash – I buy mine from Pig Gear.  She has a website and Etsy shop.  Use my discount code on her website.  (autumn)
  • Hoof Trimmer – a Dremel works great (60-80 grit) if you can desensitize your pig to the sound and vibration.  Or you could use a technique where you flip your pig upside down.  There are many YouTube videos explaining how to do it.
  • Skin Supplement – Vitamin E or FISH OIL.
  • Coat Supplement This skin and coat supplement is great.  I also make sure they are eating a good pig food.  (I don’t care for Mazuri.  It causes a lot of piggy rust.)
  • Lotion – I don’t use lotion on my pigs.  But any baby or children’s lotion would work just fine.
  • Dental care – Some people brush their pig’s teeth.  I prefer to use Whimzees to keep my pig’s teeth clean.
  • Crate – This is purely preference.  I use small shipping crates for our young piglets.  I use an extra large wire dog crate for Topanga.
  • Toys – Pigs won’t just play with any toy.  Most won’t play with any toy that is not a treat dispensing toy.  I get our treat dispensing toys from Oinkbox.  A lot of pigs also enjoy toys that have a crinkle noise.
  • Gate/Enclosure – Pigs are very strong.  There are few baby gates and enclosures that can hold a pig during its entire life course.  But while a piglet is young, any metal enclosure that is held securely in place will work fine.  Another option is a secure area built of wood.  Just make sure it is at lease three feet high so your pig doesn’t jump over it.
  • Parasite control – Diatomaceous Earth (Food Grade), Ivermectin and Safe Guard.
  •
